Both the words in the title portray underlying irony in the play. The Grandfather, Abel Merryweather was neither dear to anyone nor he departed. In the drama hypocrisy, jealousy and rivalry rule the ladies. Though both of them are daughters from the same father yet they are so estranged and do not realize the deed performed by them.
