"Old man at the bridge” is the short tale written by Ernest Hemingway during Spanish Civil War in 1938.

When Hemingway was observing the escape of civilians in their vehicle due to expected attack from their enemy, he saw a old man who was sitting exhausted at the end of the pontoon bridge.

When Hemingway enquired the old man and found that the old was tired and halted in the bridge to take some rest. As the old man walked all alone for a distance of 12 kilometers from this village San Carlos.

The death of old man is very near as he will the first target when the enemy army crosses the bridge which will be in short time. The luck of old man was running out, since he is not able to move from the bridge.

Hence, the title “OLD MAN AT THE BRIDGE” is very appropriate because his life is about to end within 24-hours and in the bridge itself.
