Answer:

  • When we know the atomic number of an element we can calculate its valency easily.
  • There are shells or energy levels in which the electrons are placed namely "k, l, m, n".
  • The different energy levels have “different number of electrons” in the first energy level is K, the second is L, third is M and so on.
  • After distributing the electrons in energy levels the “number of electrons” in outermost shell should be considered and subtracted from 8.
  • Since 8 is a stable configuration and subtracting the number of electrons from 8 will give the valency.
