Thermite reaction is the reaction in which aluminum displaces iron from it's oxide , and it is highly exothermic that the iron obtained Is in molten state.
2Al + Fe2O3---------> Al2O3 + 2Fe + Heat.
This molten iron hardens to form a solid mass and thus used in welding railway tracks.
