Your kidneys are filtration units. Your blood is constantly circulated through your kidneys, which filter out waste products and extra fluid (basically water) through tiny filtering systems called nephrons. This “waste water” is urine.

The cleaned blood is sent back into circulation in your blood stream. The extra fluid and the waste products (urine) are sent into your bladder through 2 little tubes called ureters (1 for each kidney).

When your bladder has been filled to a certain level (this is different for each individual - how much you drink, the rate of filtration, and at what point you feel like your bladder is full), you feel the urge to pee, and you then empty your “holding tank”, and start again!
