population of organisms fill well defined places or niches in the ecosystem.

  • however , niches can change.
  • temperature on earth can go up and down due to meteor hits , etc.
  • if there was a particular population of organisms living in a particular niche and the niche was suddenly drastically changed , then their entire population would be wiped out.
  • however , if there were some variations in few of these organisms , then they would have a chance to survive an they would survive and that species wont go extinct.
  • hence variations are useful for a species in the long run.

variation helps the organisms to withstand drastic environmental changes and it save them from being extinct and promote their survival for a longer time.
