How is VBT different from Lewis concept
Answers
Introduction to valence bond theory, VBT and hybridization concept in detail. Types hybridization i.e., sp, sp2, sp3, sp3d, sp3d2, sp3d3 hybridization.
Valence bond theory ..
VBT states that the overlap of incompletely filled atomic orbitals leads to the formation of a chemical bond between two atoms. The unpaired electrons are shared and a hybrid orbital is formed.
hope this helps uhh
The difference between Valence Bond Theory and Lewis concept are:
VALENCE BOND THEORY:
- VBT takes into consideration the orbital overlap concept and the hybridzation of atomic orbitals for the bonding.
- It explains the formation and directional properties of polyatomic molecules like CH4, H2, NH3, NO2, etc.
- It can be applied to almost every compound.
LEWIS CONCEPT:
- The Lewis concept explains the bond formation based upon the completion of octet of the atoms.
- It can explain only the formation of simple molecules.
- Incomplete octet, odd-electron molecules and the expanded octet are some of its drawbacks.
