Speed= distance / time.
Velocity = displacement / time.
Displacement is the shortest distance.

Hope my answer helps you.

queenelsa123: but whats the actual difference??
Anonymous: Velocity depend upon displacement but speed depend on distance and not displacement
Anonymous: Is that fine

The speed of a moving object is define as the total distance covered divided by the time taken to cover distance.

Speed = total distance covered / time.

Speed is a scalar quantity.

And the velocity of an object is defined as the displacement divided by the time.
V= displacement / time.
Velocity is a vector quantity.
