Vinegar is a naturally occurring liquid that contains many chemicals. It is also called as acetic acid , ethanol acid , methane carboxylic acid. It is a colourless liquid that has strong and distinct pungent and sour smell. Its chemical formula is CH3COOH or C2H4O2 or CH3CO2H. The process of production of vinegar is called alcoholic fermentation and occurs when yeasts change natural sugars into alcohol under controlled conditions. In another process , a group of bacteria called "Acetobacter" converts the alcohol portion to acid. This is the acetic or acid fermentation , that forms vinegar.
