How is water pumped up using electricity? How is water lifted without electricity?

water is pumped up by a electric motor which electrical energy in to mechanical energy and does work againt the force of gravity to lift the water upto a certain height

without electricity water can be lift manually using a bucket attached to one end of a movable pulley . the pulley reduces effort .
