Once the sheep is sheared, you have wool fiber in its raw state. It is full of vegetative matter (VM) that can be removed eventually and same goes for lanolin.
Next thing to do is to remove the bits that don’t go well in make yarn that includes washing, removing dirt of all types and picking it apart enough to card the fibers to get it ready to spin into yarn.
All the whole time from the moment it is sheared, it is fiber and turns into yarn when it is spin and maybe into a sweater, hat, blanket, if it is knitted, crocheted or felted.
It is always a fiber, especially after the sheep has been sheared.
