the process of electrolysis decomposes water into oxygen and hydrogen. Here Iam explaining this process of electrolysis to you in detail.
You will need:a 6-volt/9-volt battery, two insulated wire, glass beaker,a piece of thin cardboard, two pencils
Activity:
1} Fill the beaker with warm water.
2} Carefully remove the outer covering of the pencils and sharpen both the ends if each pencil. Now,you have got your electrodes ready.
3} Put the piece of thin cardboard and fit it over the beaker and then punch out two holes in the center about an inch apart. Push the pencils through the holes and extend them into the water, but don't let them touch the bottom of the glass. The cardboard will hold the pencils firmly.
4} Now connect each pencil to the battery with an insulated wire to the lead.
WHAT DO YOU OBSERVE?
When you will connect the wires to the battery, bubbles will appear around each pencil leads. These bubbles are components of water-hydrogen gas and oxygen gas, which have been decomposed.

HOPE IT HELPS.
