how it is that compound in the solid state do not conduct electricity but they do so when in molten state.

this is because when they are in solid state the molecules are held by strong electrostatic forces of attraction and they do not contain ions but in liquid state the molecular attraction gets reduced and ions develop which cause electric conductance
