Atom is composed of neutron, proton and electron. After the discovery of neutron proton and electron it was observed that electron is the smallest of all the particles. So it was accepted the fundamental particle of all matter.

Ancient scientist believed that there must be some building blocks of matter "ATOMOS" . Earlier, atoms were considered indivisible . It was until early 20th century since toms were considered indivisible , then first nuclear reaction occurs . so, it was clear that atom can be divided and it is no longer considered as fundamental . The model described that atoms is made up of protons and neutrons forming nucleus and electrons revolving around it in fixed path ORBITALS  . No experiment so far has indicated that electron has any internal structure . Since then electrons are considered as fundamental particles of an atom .
