on 12 april 1919 martial law was imposed and general dyer took command
on 13 april 1919 baisakhi day villager gathered in a fair. they were unaware of the martial law. dyer entered the area and blocked exit points and start firing.
thousand people died.
after this people came on streets and procession were took place
police started arresting people and satyagrahis were told to rub theit noses and salaam all sahibs
later general dyer announced that he want to produce a moral effect on the minds of people, 'a feeling of terror and awe'
