There are many ways of turning kinetic energy into thermal energy, in fact it's almost impossible not to do so. A match being struck against the striker converts kinetic energy into heat which goes on to light the match. A car braking will convert the vehicle's kinetic energy into heat in the braking system

Answer:

To heat something means to transfer thermal energy from an object or system of higher temperature to one of a lower temperature. Since temperature is the average kinetic energy of an object, the transfer of thermal energy not only involves the kinetic energy but also the potential energy of the object.
