How I motivated my friends for saving water?
It is known to all that water is one of the three major necessities of survival, the air, food and water itself. It is easy to survive without all other articles. Life without cars, bunglow, huge complexes and other property is possible. But it's hard to imagine living life without water. So undoubtedly, water is a treasure.
Now since water is a treasure, I always avoid wasting it. Also I suggested and motivated my friends for doing the same. Following are the ways how I motivated my friends and companions towards this vital motion:
Firstly, I draw before them the view of living life in absence of water. I told them how vital role does water play in our existence on this planet. Seventy percent of our body is composed of water. Most of the biological processes in our body takes place in water medium. This way they understood about the importance of water.
Secondly, I took them from backward areas where people don't have access to basic needs and clean water. The water there was polluted. All my friends were almost in tears seeing people being bound to drink the polluted water. I told them the same condition would be of ours if we don't stop polluting and wasting water now.
Thirdly, I took examples of the states like Rajasthan and some part of Gujarat where people suffer from the lack of water due to comparatively less rain. I told them what water means to the people belonging to areas prone to draught. They they all agreed on my words and suggestions.
All my friends understood the deepness of my views and every which thing that I made a glimpse of before them. They all thanked me for opening their eyes and promised me to save water. Also, they to me that they would motivate many other people in the neighbourhood and society regarding the importance of water.

How I motivated my friends to save water
I have lots of friends, some are from my school and some are from the same locality where I live. Water scarcity is prevalent across the world due to pollution, increase in population and wastage. So, one day I decided to talk about water conservation to my friends. At first I was not sure where to start or how they would react. But after saying a few things about water shortage and the probable effects in the coming years, they became more attentive and curious. I told them that people take water resource for granted. They use it as if it cannot be exhausted. They all agreed that we must change our attitude towards water.
I explained to them that half of the world’s largest cities are facing water scarcity. Water scarcity is the shortage of freshwater to satisfy water demand. Population growth, industrialization, rapid urbanisation, rising needs of irrigation and increase in domestic water usage have accelerated the demand for water. Pollution of rivers and lakes will create extreme water scarcity in all major cities. Survival without water is impossible, so water conservation and the prevention of water wastage is vital for life on Earth.
After this I told my friends about water conservation. This means utilising water efficiently to reduce wastage. Now they have understood why saving water is vital for our present as well as for our future. The response from my friends was so encouraging. We all agreed to save water and reduce scarcity of water. We discussed about ways to save water. Our list of conserving water are:
- prevention of dripping of water from taps,
- quick repair of leakage from water pipes,
- turning off taps when not in use while brushing teeth,
- harvesting rain water by involving our parents,
- proper use of irrigation systems,
- not playing with water hose,
- not wasting water by taking long bath,
- reusing water after washing dishes, fruits and vegetables for watering garden plants and flowers,
- planting more trees so that rainwater will be retained as underground water.
71% of the surface of the Earth is water. Out of this only 3% is drinkable freshwater. The rest are saline ocean and sea water. We now have less than 3% potable water due to pollution. We must save this small percentage of freshwater.
Our group of friends dedicated to save water is growing in numbers. Our next big plan is to carry out cleanliness drive on lakes and rivers. We will spread the awareness on the danger of polluting water and the importance of saving water. This is a movement to save life by saving water. We are happy with our water conservation movement. This is better than fighting with your friends and neighbours for a small bucket of water which was predicted by environmentalists.
