Answers
Answer:
Langauge played a very important role in developing nationalist sentiments. Though regional langauges brought some difficulties in the unification of country, thus a common national language was adopted in many places including Poland.
We know that, after Treaty of Vienna in 1815, Poland was divided between the Prussia, Austria and Russia. When Prussia tried to expand its control over Poland, then Russia expanded its control and annexed Poland. Thus Poland was occupied by Russia. Now Russia started ruling over Poland. In 1832, a armed rebellion against the Russian role took place but it was considered and crushed. After the failure of this rebellion, members of clergy in Poland began using langauge as the weapon of national resistance. Polish became the langauge of Church gatherings and all the religious instructions. Many priests and bishops who refused to preach in Russian were sent to Siberia in jails or were executed. Polish language was forced out of the schools and Russian language was made obligatory.
