Stratification also called layering mostly occurs in sedimentary rocks.

What kinds of rocks are formed for stratification?

  • In stratification, different sediments accumulate in multiple layers, one over the other.
  • Each layer or stratum is formed over a period of time and has a particular size.
  • Each layer is younger than the layer formed before it.
  • Sedimentary rock is also known as stratified rock.
