Leaves provide food and air to help a plant stay healthy and grow. Through photosynthesis, leaves turn light energy into food. Through pores, or stomata, leaves “breathe” in carbon dioxide and “breathe” out oxygen.
- Leaves as food: cabbage and other leafy vegetables are good human food. Sizable quantity of our daily food consists of one or other kind of leaves. Human diet with more leafy material is considered to be a healthy food. Leafy food is good in vitamins, minerals, trace elements, useful fibre along with important dietary carbohydrates.
