So, the sound wave gets smaller and smaller until it disappears. In contrast, lightwaves can travel through a vacuum, and do not require a medium. In empty space, the wave does not dissipate (grow smaller) no matter how far it travels, because the wave is not interacting with anything else.

according to me..light doesn't require any medium to travel...morever the space contains many particles with low density which enables light to move freely....hope it helps...
