A grafted mango tree takes about 5 years to fruit when put in the ground. By that time the tree in mature and will start yielding fruits. Same is the case of a mango tree in a pot. If it is well taken care of, fertilizing it at the right time with the right fertilizers, then the bonsai mango tree should yield fruits within the specified time. But during those 5 years there is a lot to be done with the tree. When the tree becomes roots bound say after 1 year, it needs to be root pruned and re-potted in fresh soil. It needs to be fertilized well during the growth period. It needs to be pruned regularly for more branch ramification. if all these factors are taken care of, the tree will fruit and the fruits are edible and can be eaten.
