How long will a train, 120m long, take to clear a platform, 130m long, if its speed is 50 km/hr?

Simple Aptitude !

See,

Length of the train = 120m

Length of the platform which is needed to cross = 130m

Speed given of the train = 50km/hr

So, if we want train to cross the whole platform , then it should complete the distance of platform plus it's own length,

i.e. Total length to be covered = 120m +130m = 250m = 0.25KM

So now,

Speed given to you ,

Distance to be covered given above ,

Then using formula ,

Speed = Distance/Time

=> TIME = DISTANCE/SPEED

=>Time = .25km/(50km/hr)

=>Time = .005 hr

=> Time = .005*3600sec = 18sec

So, Total time taken by a 120m train to cross the platform of 130m is 18sec.
