Majoritarianism led civil war in Sri Lanka . The majority of sinhala speaking people declared sinhala as an official language through which other people in Sri Lanka got angered and they started revolution for equal rights. In this way majoritarianism resulted in social tension.

Answer:

HI MATE !

  • As the Sinhala community constituted major percentage of Sri Lanka's population, they adopted a series of majoritarianism to show their supremacy. They dominated the Sri Lankan parliament and declared sinhala as the official language.

  • They gave more privileges to Sinhalese people in terms of jobs and universities thus disregarding Tamils.

  • They also decided to foster Buddhism in the country which further created a feeling of alienation among Tamils.

  • So the Tamils began demanding some demands like recognition of Tamil as the official language, more autonomy in Tamil provinces which were repeatedly denied by sinhala leaders.

  • These all led to many social tension in Sri Lanka which resulted in a civil war in the country.
