A belief that the majority community should be able to rule the country in whatever way they want by disregarding the wishes and needs of the minority is called majoritarianism.

The democratically elected govt. adopted a series of policies measure to establish Sinhala supremacy....

1) Sinhala adopted as the only official language.

2) The govt. followed pre - ferential policies that favoured Sinhala applicants for university position and government jobs.

3)These decisions gradually increase the feeling of alienation among the Srilankan Tamils .

4) The Srilankan Tamils launched parties and struggles for the recognition of Tamil as an official language .

5) Several political organisation were formed demanding an independent Tamil (Estate) . It soon turned into civil war.
