For mitigation of pollution, ganga action plan was framed in January 1986 by then prime minister Sri Rajib Gandhi.
This plan included diver of wastewater sources and their treatment, prevention of solid and other wastes into the river.
Pollution of River Yamuna: The Yamuna river water is comparatively of better quality.
Although cases of waste water discharge at Wazirabad barrage is quite high which is making the river somewhat polluted.
Pollution of Taj Mahal: It has been reported after research work that burning of coal, called fossil fuel ,biomass and garbage, vehicle emission and dust have created carbon deposits on the marble domes and minarets surfaces of Taj making brownish yellow in colour.
Moreover, air pollution causes acid rains which damage marble bigger damage.

Ganga and yamuna rivers are suffering from huge pollution problems mainly because of numerous industries at its banks. They release a huge amount of chemicals in to the water .It causes the aquatic organism to die and also the entire ecosystem will be in threat. And ofcourse humans also get affected .Ganga and yamuna action plans by ministry of environment are taking steps to decelerate the rate of pollution . Taj mahal is made up of marble(CaCO3).Due to increase in amount of SO2 in atmosphere increases there is a chance forming sulphuric acid which react with marble and reduces its shining.
