From (1) and (2)

M₁ M₂ V₂ V₁

substituting the values,

V₂ 2M x 100ml 0.5M -

V₂ = 400ml

Hence, V₂ - V₁ = 400ml - 100ml = 300ml

Therefore, 300ml of water is added to the solution.
