Given

1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 are the digits

To Find

How many 3 digit numbers can be formed from this digits. [ If repetition are not allowed ]

Solution

Three digit number :

 {1}^{th \: } \:  {2}^{nd}  \:  {3}^{rd \:} places

Let's take ones digit ,

This place can take any values { all values}

1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 =number of different ways = 5

Now Its tens place ,

If all number appears in ones place , one number must be eliminated here. What ever can be that number too ! = number of different ways = 4

Now its hundred's place ,

Two numbers took tens and ones digit so two numbers are eliminated here , Note - It can be of any number.

= number of different ways = 3

Hence the digits formed without repetitions will be the product of different ways

5 \times 4 \times 3 = 60 \: ways
