SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

The number of 6" × 6" books can you put in a 2ft × 2ft container, so that it is not empty anymore

EVALUATION

We know that 1 ft = 12 inch

∴ 2 ft = 2 × 12 inch = 24 inch

Area of the container

= 2ft × 2ft

= 24 inch × 24 inch

= 24 × 24 inch²

Area of each book

= 6 inch × 6 inch

= 6 × 6 inch²

Hence the required number of books can you put in the container, so that it is not empty anymore is

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{24 \times 24}{6 \times 6} }

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  4 \times 4 }

 \displaystyle \sf{ =16 }
