Answer:

ther are four nodes total(5-1=4) and ther are two angular nodes on the xz and zy planes.this means there must be two radial nodes.

Answer:

The number of angular nodes are present in  3d_{xy}  orbital is equal to two.

Explanation:

  • Nodal plane is region where the probability of finding the electron is equal to zero. No electron density is present there. We can also say this, at node the wavefunction changes its direction.
  • The total number of nodes =n-l-1

where n is principle quantum number

         l is azimuthal quantum number

  • The number of radial nodes =n-1
  • The number of angular nodes in an orbital  =l

We have to find the radial nodes of 3d_{xy} orbital:

The azimuthal quantum number (l) = n-1 = 3-1 = 2

or the value of l, for s-orbital = 0 , for p-orbital = 1 and for d- orbital = 2

Therefore, the angular nodes in  3d_{xy} orbital is equal to two.
