Data:

  • Mass of HNO3 = 60 grams.
  • Molar mass of HNO3 = 63 grams.

To find:

  • Number of atoms = ?

Solution:

First we have to find the number of moles then we have to find the number of molecules and then the number of atoms can be found.

so first,

 \implies{ \mathtt{n.o \: of \: moles =  \frac{mass}{molar \: mass} }} \\  \implies{ \frac{60}{63} } \ \\  \implies{{0.9523}}

Then,

 \implies \tt{n.o \: of \: molecules{ = n.o \: of \: moles \times  N_A}} \\  \implies{0.9523 \times 6.02 \times  {10}^{23} } \\  \implies{5.733 \times  {10}^{23} }

Now ,

Number of atoms = ?

HNO3 has five atoms in a molecule.

So,

 \implies{ \tt{n.o \: of \: atoms}} = 5.733 {10}^{23}  \times5 \\  \implies28.66 \times  {10}^{23}  \\ \implies2.866 \times  {10}^{1}  \times  {10}^{23} \\ \implies{2.866 \times  {10}^{24} }

Therefore,number of atoms is 2.866×10².
