There are two types of auxillary verbs present in English.

(1) Primary verbs.

(2)Modal verbs.

(1)Primary verbs;like is,are,am or it can be known as all "be" verbs.

(2)Modal verbs;like was and were.

There are another types of verbs like shall will.

                        Do - do, does (present tense) did (past tense)

Be : * Used in the formation of continuous tense

Example - She is singing my favourite song.

      * Used in sentences where the action is more importanat than the subject.

Example - The drowning child was rescused.

      * Used to indicate a plan or an arrangement when followed by an         infinite.

Example - We are to complete the project by Monday.

      * Used to denote a command

Example - You are to go to bed right now.

     

Have: * Used to form perfect tenses

Example - She has helped me several times.

          * Used with infinitive to indicate some kind of obligation.

Example - I had to drop her there.

         

Do:  * Used to form negative and interrogative of simple past and simple present.

Example - She does not lie at all

                 Did you help her with the homework?

      * Used in imperative to make the statement more forceful.
