In order to provide, the government with more power and command over credit delivery six commercial banks of India including, Andhra Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Vijaya Bank, Punjab and Sind Bank, and Corporation Bank, were nationalized in the year 1980.The nationalization of banks led to credence being channelized to farming and small and medium enterprises. Banks had to reserve as much as 40% of the credit to the priority sectors
