Answer:

There really is no typical total number of books for a school library.

Some school libraries have 8,000 books and some have many more or far fewer books.

Keep in mind that the library should also have an online presence (a library website) books available online, onli e paid apps as well as free online apps, AV equipment, plug in/locked carts containing laptops for students (unless it is a school where they already have 1:1 computer to student and staff).

Today's libraries should have enough desktop or laptop computers for each student in a classroom visiting the library to use. In addition, the librarian needs at least 2 computers: one dedicated to check books out and to conduct library research and one laptop to respond to teacher and student reference questions.

The School Librarian needs a Library Office to process and repair books and as a work area a part from the library. Often the library is used before and after school and for meetings. Many of these open hours will require the Librarian's presence, yet there will be times that the librarian is required to do work requiring significant space (needed to process books) or significant quiet (appropriate for fulfilling research requests by colleagues and students).

Books are extremely important for students and for teachers to use to supplement lessons. Many students thrive when taken to a school library.
