Answer:

Byes are given when the total number of participating teams are not equal to 2^n (^— to the power).

Here there are 19 teams , which is more than 2^4 but less than 2^5

Therefore 2^5–19 = 32-19 = 13 byes must be given.

When 13 teams are given bye, 6 teams play against each other in 1st round, 3 teams emerge winners.

The total no of teams for the next round will be 13+3=16 which is equal to 2^4.

From here 16 teams play each other and 8 move on to the next round and so on.

This is the method u have to do the sum

I have given the answer for 19 teams just u have to change to 12 teams and do your sum

Hope it helps

Answer:

The number of byes given is 4.

Explanation:

  • A bye simply means that a team does not have to participate in the first round of the tournament, but instead gets a free pass to the second round.
  • Byes are given when the total number of participating teams are not equal to power of two.
  • Total number of participating teams is equal to 2^n.
  • In case the number of teams is not a power of two, then byes shall be given.
  • For instance if the number of teams participating are 12, next higher power of two will be 16.
  • So, the number of byes is 16 – 12 =4.
  • In sports, bye refers to a team automatically advancing to the next round of tournament play without competing and bye week refers to a scheduled off week for a given team.
  • The number of teams offered a bye is generally designed to ensure that the next round consists of a power-of-two number of teams so the tournament can proceed as a simple single-elimination tournament from that round onward.
