NaCl has face centered cubic arrangement in which the Cl- ion ocupy the corners and fcc of a cube while Na+ ions are present at the body center and edge centers ( in octahedral voids).
Each Na+ ion is surrounded by six Cl- ions and each Cl- ion is surrounded by six Na+ ions.
The ionic lattice is the large groups of ions that are fixed together as crystals by electrostatic force of attraction.
Both sodium and chloride ions have fcc/ccp unit cell. Here there are 6 Cl surrounding the Na, and 6 Na around each Cl. Na ions occupy the octahedral sites in the Cl sublattice, and the Cl ions occupy the octahedral sites in the Na sublattice.
Coordination number: Na+ = 6; Cl- = 6
Formula units per unit cell = 4
