How many chromosome shall be present in a diploid cell at mitotic anaphase if it's egg cell has 20 chromosomes ?
Answers
Ans.
In multicellular organisms, somatic cells or normal body cells divide by mitosis, which forms two daughter from a single parent cell with same number of chromosomes as found in parent cell. At first, chromosome content get doubled as S-phase of cell division and at the end of mitosis, it is divided into two daughter cells.
Egg cells or gametes are produced by germ cells, through the process of meiosis that forms two daughter from a single parent cell with half of the number of chromosomes as found in parent cell. An individual having an egg cell with 20 chromosomes, will show a diploid cell with 40 chromosomes.
Thus, a diploid cell of that individual will show 80 (40X2) chromosomes at mitotic anaphase as the chromosomes will get doubled during the process of mitotic division.
