Telophase is the phase during which separation of chromosomes take place. So after telophase half of the original number of chromosomes is present. In humans for example, there are 46 chromosome arranged in the form of 23 pairs. After telophase II of meiosis 23 chromosomes will be present in each daughter cell. The number is restored when the daughter cells unite during fertilization.
