There are 26 alphabets and 10 digits from 0 to 9. Therefore there are a total of 26+10 = 36 different types of characters.

2 digit combinations that we can get with the 36 characters could be computed here as:

= 36*36

because there are 36 ways to fill each of the 2 characters.

= 1296
