Question:-

How many cubes of edge 6 cm can be cut from a cuboid 36 cm × 24 cm × 18 cm?

Answer:-

Given:

  • Edge of the cube = Side of the cube = 6 cm
  • Dimensions of the cuboid = 36 cm × 24 cm × 18 cm

To find:

  • No. of cubes of edge 6 cm that can be cut from a cuboid of dimensions 36 cm × 24 cm × 18 cm

Formula to be used:

  • Volume of cube = (side)³
  • Volume of cuboid = length × breadth × height

                                       = lbh

Solution:

Volume of the cube = (side)³

                                  = (6)³

                                  = 216 cm³

Volume of the cuboid = lbh

                                     = (36) (24) (18)

                                      = 15552 cm³

No. of cubes of edge 6 cm that can be cut from a cuboid with volume 15552 cm³ =

= \frac{Volume \: of \: cuboid}{Volume \: of \: cube} \\= \frac{15552}{216}

= 72

∴ 72 cubes of edge 6 cm can be cut from a cuboid of dimensions 36 cm × 24 cm × 18 cm.
