Given: Dimensions of big cube = 9cm × 9cm × 9cm

           Dimensions of small cube = 3cm × 3cm × 3cm

To find: Number of small cubes that can be cut from the big cube

Solution:

∵ Number of small cubes that can be cut from big cube

                   = \frac{Volume \ of \ big \ cube}{Volume \ of \ small \ cube}

[∵ Volume of cube =  Length × breadth × height or side × side × side]

Volume of big cube = 9 × 9 × 9 = 729 cm^{3}

Volume of small cube = 3 × 3 × 3 = 27 cm^{3}

Number of small cubes = \frac{729}{27} = 27

Hence, 27 cubes of side 3 cm can be cut from a cube of side 9 cm.
