Answer:

(D) 462 m^2

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1:

Given Data.

Sink a well = 16 m depth.

Diameter = 7 m

Step 2:

So we come to know

Radius = Diameter / 2= 7 / 2 m

Height= 16m

Step 3:

Using the Formula

Volume of cylinder = 22 / 7 x 7 / 2 x 7 / 2 x 12

Volume of cylinder = 22 / 7 x 49 / 4 x 12

Volume of cylinder = 462m^2

Given : a well of 12 m deep and of diameter 7m to be created

To Find : How many cubic meters of earth must be dug out to create

A) 268 m³ B) 324 m³ C) 376 m³ D) 462 m³

Solution:

Well is in the shape of cylinder

To find earth must be dug  , need to find volume of earth must be dug

Volume of cylinder = πr²h

π = 22/7

r = Radius = (diameter /2)  = 7/2  m

h = depth =12 m

Volume of Earth = (22/7) (7/2)²  *12

= 22 * 7 * 3

= 22 * 21

= 462  m³

Hence 462  cubic metres of earth must be dug out to create a well of 12 m deep and of diameter 7m

Correct answer is option D)  462 m³
