NREGA or National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005, later renamed Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act ( MNREGA), is an Indian labour or social security law that aims to guarantee 'the right to work' for the rural labour. Under the provisions of the Act, at least 100 days of wage employment in a financial is guaranteed to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work.
It was started with 200 districts on 2nd February, 2006. But, effective from 1st April, 2008, all the districts of the country were brought under its purview.
