the atom of chlorine is denoted with a 37 on top and a 17 on bottom. you must have learnt that number of protons and electrons are equal in an atom. so number of protons and electrons are atomic weight. technically electrons have no weight so we dont count it bcoz of which the number of protons is the atomic weight in form of amu ( dont worry about this term amu. ) neutrons are neutral charges and what is written on top is mass weight. mass weight is the number of protons and neutrons. neutrons are neutral in charge. the number 37 is the addition of protons and neutrons, as we know that there are 17 protons, we can say that the rest of it is neutrons. so we subtract 37-17 to find the number of neutrons/

neutrons = 20

electrons= 17

protons=17
