Two oxygen atoms in a oxygen molecule share two electrons. Oxygen atoms only have 6 valence electrons (electrons in the outer shell). They want 8 electrons so they need to steal two or share two. there fore there arer 8 electrons in oxygen molecule

We know that,

No. of electrons un atom = atomic number

So, number of atom in Oxygen atom= 8

Oxygen molecule = O2

no. of electron in O2= 2×8 = 16
