How many envelopes can be made out of a sheet of paper measuring 144 cm
by 108 cm, if each envelope requires a paper of size 18 cm by 12 cm?

To find total number of envelope can be made , first of all we have to find total length of sheet i.e perimeter of sheet . Since sheet is in rectangule shape . So,

perimeter of sheet = 2 (Length+ breadth)

= 2 (144+108) cm

= 2× 252 cm = 504 cm

Total length of one envelope = 2 (Length+ breadth)

= 2(18+12) cm

= 2×30 cm = 60 cm

Total number of envelope made by sheet = Total length of sheet ÷ Total Length of one Envalope

504÷60 = 8.4

i.e from sheet we can make total 8 Envalopes. (we cannot include 0.4 because it is not appropriate to use 0.4 envalope)
