Think of it this way: the 100 integers from 1 to 100 form 50 pairs {1, 2}, {3, 4}, {5, 6}… {99, 100}, each consisting of one even and one odd number. So there are exactly 50 odd numbers between 1 (included) and 100.

As you said 'Between' 1 to 100
2 , 3 , 4 , ........ , 98 , 99
There are Half even and Half odd.
Which makes,
Half if 98 = 49 even numbers
and
49 odd numbers
2 , 3 , 4 , ........ , 98 , 99
There are Half even and Half odd.
Which makes,
Half if 98 = 49 even numbers
and
49 odd numbers
