The formation of HCl can be represented as follows:
H2 + Cl2 → 2HCl
Here, 1 mole of H2 reacts with 1 mole of Cl2 to give 2 moles of HCl.
Given,
0.4 g H2 is present,
Number of moles of H2 = 0.4/2 = 0.2
As 1 mole of H2 gives 2 moles of HCl,
0.2 moles of H2 will give 2 x 0.2 = 0.4 moles of HCl
 Hence, grams of HCl = 0.2 x 36.5 = 7.3 g of HCl
As 2 moles of HCl is formed by 1 mole of Cl2,
0.4 moles of HCl corresponds to 0.2 moles of Cl2
Therefore,
Grams of Cl2 = 0.2 x (35.5 x 2) = 0.2 x 71 = 14.2 g of Cl2
