Earth is divided into 60 zones with the UTC system.

Explanation:

  • The earth is in the shape of a sphere and forms a network of imaginary horizontal and verticals systematic lines that are called a geographic grid.
  • They are drawn in a circular shape with the vertical lines are called as the meridians of longitude and horizontal are parallel of latitude. Each and every region in the grid is called a cell.
  • The prime meridian from the Greenwich is taken as zero degrees and divided the earth into the 180°W and 180° E longitude and is known as the international dateline. Thus a total of 181 latitudes and  total of 360 longitudes are made.
  • The equator divides the earth into north and south parts, which means there are 90 latitudes in north and 90 altitudes in the southern hemisphere and one degree of latitude is about 111 km.
