Given,

Dimensions of the master cloth:

Length, L = 8 metres

Breadth, B = 4 metres

Dimensions of each handkerchief:

Length, l = 40 centimetres

Breadth, b = 25 centimetres

To find,

Total handkerchiefs that can be made from the master cloth.

Solution,

We can simply solve this mathematical problem by using the basic formula of mensuration, as follows:

Area of each handkerchief

= Area (handkerchief)

= l x b (Since the area of any rectangle is the product of its length and breadth)

= 40 cm x 25 cm

= 1000 square centimetres

Area of the master cloth

= Area (master cloth)

= L x B (Since the area of any rectangle is the product of its length and breadth)

= 8 m x 4 m

= 800 cm x 400 cm

( since 1 metre = 100 centimetres )

= 320000 square centimetres

Total handkerchiefs that can be made from the master cloth is = Area (master cloth) ÷ Area (handkerchief)

= (320000 ÷ 1000) handkerchiefs

= 320 handkerchiefs

Hence, total 320 handkerchiefs can be made from the master cloth.
